PRINCE OF WALES ELECTED FUTURE HEAD OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF NATIONS
April 20, 2018, Charles, Prince of Wales, Heir to the British Throne, was elected future Head of the Commonwealth of Nations (British Commonwealth of Nations, includes the United Kingdom and its former dominions, colonies and protectorates) at a meeting of the group’s heads of government in Windsor, Sky News reported on Friday citing unnamed sources.
Prince Charles will become Head of the Commonwealth of Nations only after the death of his August Mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who has been heading this association since 1953.
Thus, 53 member states supported Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom, who spoke in favor of her son and the heir to the British Throne to head the world's oldest inter-state association. She expressed the hope that the Commonwealth "will decide to make Prince of Wales its head one day to continue the important work my father began in 1949".
Despite her important role, the Queen of the United Kingdom has no power, which makes her a ceremonial leader. About 2.4 billion people currently live in 53 Commonwealth member states.
